Research Interests:
Hyperion is a private company that specializes in the analysis of Giardia and Cryptosporidium in water, wastewater and soil. Our emphasis is on detection and transmission of disease but we also have an interest in water treatment technology, particularly UV disinfection. Genotyping, culturing, propagation, zoonotic potential and methods development are subjects of ongoing research in our lab and we routinely produce Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts in our facility. I am a strong supporter of Science Fairs and undergraduate education so there are always students working in the laboratory. Recently we completed a project investigating the occurrence of antibiotics, endocrine disrupters and industrial chemicals in surface waters around Medicine Hat.
